What attributes can you bring to the team
Interviewers like to test you by asking what you can bring to the company. This is their way of making you think on your feet. It also helps them see how you formulate responses to open-ended questions like this one. Which is a measurement of your verbal communication skills.
Knowing how to answer this question can make you seem confident and experienced. Even though these two interview questions sound similar, one is about what you might bring to the team. And the other this interview question is related to what skills you bring to the table. Something like your verbal communication skills , again, for example. What you want to bring up is something that you know most companies struggle with. Here is an example, most companies struggle with team communication.
With more companies relying on digital internal communication tools, communication can suffer. While these tools are more convenient than having an in-person meeting, they can also create confusion and cause miscommunication to persist.
Your ability to mention your desire to communicate clearly across teams and ensure teams are on the same page before investing time into projects is a huge value. By positioning the answer alongside a frequent issue within a company. But you can make some educated guesses. Or you can simply align yourself with a value the company already has.
Once you have that, you can structure your answer as saying you can bring a new perspective from your past experiences into the environment, hopefully creating more innovation. If you choose not to align yourself to existing values, you can make some assumptions about the environment. Using our flaws from the above list, we can come up with some example answers to this question quite easily. Remember, align yourself to either existing values by researching the company in advance.
None of these surprised me about these qualities. I think that empathy might be one of the most important qualities of an effective team member. I believe every single one of the qualities listed in this post are qualities needed for a strong team.
Although some of the qualities stand out more than others, all of these strike me as important for great teamwork and diligence in each and every team member. Being honest is the most important quality to me. Within group projects, it is easy to rely on one person to do the majority of the work, but if the individual is truly honest he or she will not allow this to happen because it would provoke a feeling of dishonesty in them.
Yes, there are many aspects listed, but each one is just as important as the next. Overall, this is a great representation of the needed qualities for teamwork! I really enjoyed the qualities listed in this post and could not agree more, that they are crucial to being a good team member!
I think ALL of them are necessary, and honestly do not think you could have written it better! I really enjoyed your examples that you listed as well. As like Ariel, I was surprised by the intrinsic factor, but least surprised that companies are thought to want a good sales men every time or skills are going obsolete over night. What I gathered from this post will help me in the nursing field for not only my peers and employer, but patients as well.
Thank you! This was a very well thought out list in my opinion. Everything listed is vital in a great team member. I can say that I agree with every quality mentioned. I do think it is rare to find a team member that has every quality listed.
I was surprised the list was able to be narrowed down to only 15 items. This was a pretty practical list. The most important qualities were listed. There may be a few more to add to the list but I think this could be the core. Nothing surprised me about this article.
The article seemed to clearly and fully describe a successful team. None of the qualities listed above surprised me. In order to have a fully functioning team all qualities must be present. However, not every person within the team will have every quality listed and that is okay. A team is about working together and helping each other out. The team will be a mix of all types of people and hopefully each team member will have a variety of the listed qualities, so the team as a whole will have all of them.
Thank you for this list! I would have to agree with all of the traits of a good team member. I am sure everyone has come across some of these qualities or even most them when being put into groups.
We develop these traits over time. We have been put into groups most of our lives. In some groups there are certain people that lack in some qualities , but make up in other areas. Some group members can be fully engaged more so than others. Teamwork is where people are lacking in a certain area but a group member makes up for it.
Each person has a role in the group to play. Anyone who has worked as part of a team understands that numerous characteristics are needed in order to balance the team. All of the qualities Pope mentioned are necessary to create strong teams.
Along with being a good communicator a person should be just as good at listening. We often miss what another person is saying because we are so focused on what we would like to say when they quit speaking. If a person does not trust that their team mates are doing everything they can for the success of the team that might cause resentment. When every member respects the other members of the team as well as the work they do, that creates a more comfortable working environment for everyone.
A team made with men and women of integrity, could not fail. Honestly none of these qualities for a successful team member surprised me. The qualities listed here are the same ones I have heard over and over in leadership training at work, school, and anytime the topic comes up. No one wants to be in a team with dishonest, selfish, lazy partners and no boss wants to hire them either. I agree that these qualities are important for a successful team member.
The only quality I can think of that I believe they left out is being a good listener. I agree with the poster above that being a good listener is also an excellent quality to have when working in a team atmosphere.
I think the quality that stood out most is being able to adapt, really challenges a member to be as versatile as possible. This is a great list of qualities, they are all essential so it is hard to put a quality above the other. Teamwork involves selecting the best person for each position that they are the best at. You do not want a English major teaching Math, that would be silly so arranging project tasks to highlight the best in each individual should be stated.
Although I do agree that self-awareness is an important characteristic to be a great team member, I definitely disagree with the quote for self-awareness. I do not think that self-awareness means to accept your weakness. I think self-awareness means to acknowledge your weaknesses and look for help from those who are strong in that area to learn from. Your goal is not to be the best at everything.
It is become the best version of yourself, so that you can be an even better teammate. Doing otherwise seems to be the opposite of a growth mindset because you are approaching your weaknesses as if they cannot be changed, and should be accepted and given up on. Great article. I enjoyed the read. I was not surprised by most of the qualities on this list. I do feel that multitasking, though it can be of some value in some specific roles, does not necessarily produce the highest quality or highest volume of productivity.
I agree that all of these qualities are necessary for a strong team. It is highly important that everyone be able to work well together, communicate effectively, and have a sense of balance. They take initiatives or provide suggestions. Employees with a positive attitude are those who work to help achieve greater goals for the company. Plus, they are a great person to be around with their positive character!
There are some people who have multiply skills; you have Jack of all trades and a master of one OR Jack of all trades but a master at none. Regardless of what type of person Jack is, having someone who has multiple skills is useful because their skills come in handy during tough times or situations. These employees who strive to gain more than one skill set would always be looking out for an opportunity to upgrade themselves or learn new set of skills all the time.
At times, you would have to make it your business to broaden the number of tasks they can perform and also find courses for them to take part in. Another admirable attribute of a great employee is being proactive. Look out for employees who are willing to take action and chances. Be prepared that by taking chances, it could lead to failures.
However, failures are the stepping stone to success and it help to build up confidence. Most great people have attained their greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure. Any company would want their employees to be diligent and hardworking.
At times, finding one with those attributes does not come easy and it would take a while to notice a diligent employee, hoping their traits could be seen during their probation period. Remember that an employee who is diligent at their work is able to increase her income through higher productivity and exceeding the expectations of the employer.
While there may be many more attributes of a great employee that could be added to this list, when they are prepared and looked into properly, these attributes could save your company lots of time and money in the future. Bringing the wrong candidate can end up being costly. So what attributes should you look for? Admirable Attributes of a Great Employee: Ambitious An ambitious employee always finds ways to better and to improve herself; regardless if it is work related or their personal skills.
